Civil Leading Hand
About the Role
AR Developments is seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Leading Hand to lead on-site civil construction teams delivering residential infrastructure and earthworks projects. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for supervising plant operators and labourers, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
The successful candidate will be a strong team leader with extensive civil construction experience, excellent organisational skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all project sites.
Identify, minimise, and report workplace hazards.
Ensure all works are completed in accordance with Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
Monitor machinery pre-starts, maintenance schedules, and logbook compliance.
Ensure tools and equipment are safe, serviceable, and properly maintained.
Project Delivery
Lead daily site activities and coordinate crews to achieve project milestones.
Ensure all works meet required quality standards and company procedures.
Monitor project progress and report delays or issues to the Civil Foreman.
Coordinate and complete rectification works in a timely manner.
Assist with procurement, stock control, material management, and waste disposal.
Team Leadership
Supervise and support machine operators and labourers.
Provide guidance, direction, and coaching to site personnel.
Promote accountability, teamwork, and high-performance standards.
Assist trades and subcontractors to achieve project outcomes.
Address workplace issues and escalate concerns when required.
Site Organisation
Plan, allocate, and communicate daily work activities.
Maintain clean, organised, and compliant work environments.
Ensure sites are prepared for deliveries and materials are checked upon arrival.
Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
Essential Requirements
Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.
Minimum 2 years' experience as a Civil Leading Hand and Machine Operator.
Current Driver's Licence.
Current White Card.
Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, machinery, equipment, and materials.
Experience working on residential construction projects. [PD Leading...Civil (1) | Word]
Technical Skills
Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Understanding of civil, landscaping, concreting, plumbing, and building works.
Knowledge of material selection, tools, fixings, and construction processes.
Experience using Onsite Companion, Sign On Site, Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, and SharePoint.

Ability to motivate teams and drive project outcomes.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
Proactive approach with the ability to identify and resolve issues before they escalate.
